Permalink Reply by Kay on July 5, 2011 at 12:55 Totally agree, Leigh! This is keeping us 'ticking over' until we can be there in September.
A bit worrying, though, at how some places have undergone radical makeovers in only the
last few months!
Permalink Reply by Leigh on July 5, 2011 at 14:16 I think we get used to how long things take to get done in the UK in general, whereas what would seem like a 'big' change over here gets done in a relatively short time abroad (or it certainly seems that way from year to year visits to Lanz :) ).
Just look how quick the Biosphera shopping centre seemed to go up, or the various road/pavement works going on at the moment (for example the road by the main roundabout at the top of the hill into the Old Town was closed off and dug up while we were there, yet a few days later was looking pristine and you'd hardly know it had been closed only a few days earlier.. in the UK it would have taken a few months!!)
Must take a screenshot off streetview showing the 'old' Tropical bar as it's already turning into the shop before we left last thursday :( (tho I've got a pic of it closed up from last year as well)

Permalink Reply by Leigh on July 5, 2011 at 17:49 I think it's from last year, the Tropical still looks like it's 'open for business' even tho it's closed in this daytime pic. The supermarker next to Los Cocoteros is obviously closed in the pic (it's now a fairly nice clothes stores selling all 'white linen' type clothes) but I'm sure I went in there last year, and the new Fund Grube store is open (which was just an open concrete shell when I was there in May 2010), so should be able to figure out roughly when they were taken. I don't think it gives anything other then "copyright 2011" when viewed in googleearth.
It must be sometime in 2011, we were there till the middle of January and the restaurant at the bottom of Calle Doramas, according to the pictures is now an Oriental restaurant but it wasn't when we were there.
